Ruth Walshe
Ruth Walshe
Originally from Cork, Ruth Walshe began practicing yoga in the late 90’s. After a couple of years she was introduced to Iyengar yoga, initially finding it quite a strong physical practice the emphasis on safe and correct alignment of the muscles and bones in each pose appealed to her. Over time, and as the poses were sequentially and gradually introduced the body began to open up and become strong, also discovering she left every class with a calm and more centered mind. Over the years Ruth has realised the power and depth of this approach through her own practice as it works through the body bringing awareness, releasing blockages, and creating freedom and space in the heart and mind. She is a qualified Iyengar teacher (introductory level 2) having trained under Grainne Gilleece. Ruth has been to India a number of times where she continues her studies with Rajiv and Swati Chanchani . This year she is honoured to have assisted in the local and medical classes for 2 months, deepening her understanding of the effects of the poses on the body and mind. Always a student, she continues to study with senior teachers from Ireland and England and will return to India next year to continue her studies.

There through the charismatic personality of her yoga teacher Glenys Shephard she fell in love with yoga. Soon she found herself practicing every day either in the institute or at home. After moving to Ireland in 2000 she continued her practice with the most senior teachers available : Margaret Austin, Jeanne Maslen, Kevin Gardiner and Sharat Arora.
